Education Summit 2012
DepEd Silay City conducted the 2nd Education Summit, Nov.29, at the Rizal Cultural and Civic Center, Silay City.
With its theme: “LET’S SYNERGIZE: Make Silay No.1,” various stakeholders met and discussed issues and concerns on the education of young Silaynons. Sectors involved are: the LGU officials, Brgy. Captains and Kagawad in charge of Education, PTA Presidents, SGO Presidents, Teachers’ League Presidents, NGO’s /GO’s.
The morning’s activity opened with a short program which was highlighted by the message of the City Mayor, Hon. Jose L. Montelibano. The Mayor urged every Silaynon to do his share to improve the performance of DepEd Silay’s education. Dr. Neri Anne M. Alibuyog, Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) discussed the status of education of DepEd Silay. The performance indicators were shown graphically to the participants. This opened the minds of the various stakeholders on the real standing of Silay City in the field of education. She likewise asked for the support of the barangay and PTA officials to join hands with the school officials to realize the mission and vision of the department. All Education Program Specialists shared their accomplishments in each subject area and add-ons.
The break-up session with workshop by sector was done in the afternoon. Each group was given an Action Plan template focused on the problems identified in their respective school/barangay and suggested interventions and strategies to address the problems. The session was handled and moderated by Mrs. Marjorie B. Bastida, EPS 1-English and Mr. Wilfredo O. Hermosura, P- IV, DMLMHS. The brilliant outputs were presented well through the collaboration of ideas of each participant.
The SDS gave her challenge and was accepted by a PTA representative.
Resolutions were moved and seconded by the participants with Hon. Marie June Castro, SP Member who also gave assurance to pass resolution to the Sangguniang Panglunsod to enact ordinances on the regulation of Internet Cafes not to allow students to enter the computer shops during class hours.The summit ended with a covenant and commitment of each participant to do his share to improve the performance of DepEd Silay.
