         The City of San Carlos, one of the fourteen (14) cities in Negros Occidental, lies at the northeastern part of Negros Island. It became a city by virtue of RA 2648 on July 1, 1960. It is bounded on the North by the Municipality of Calatrava, on the west by the Municipality of Salvador Benedicto and the City of Bago, on the south by the Municipality of Vallehermoso and the City of Canlaon (both of Negros Oriental) and on the East by Tañon Strait. It is 144 kilometers from Bacolod City through the old coastal road and 80 kilometers through the newly-opened Negros Eco Tourism Translink, 167 kilometers from Dumaguete City and 14 nautical miles from Toledo City, Cebu.
